Hi All,
We hope all of you have had time to send in your letters opposing SB 79. We tried to make this as easy a process as possible. We honestly don’t stand a chance if you don’t send out a lot of letters and if you don’t get others to do the same. This is a bill that if it goes unamended will not stop with just a few homes. This is a great tool for developers that will gladly replace one home for a six story apartment building. If this bill becomes state law no one will be able to stop these developments. This is something the City should fight because it takes away local control over land use. Many of our city officials, that we have contacted, are horrified by what this bill can do. And like all these bills, they will be followed by other bills that will increase the radius, impacting even more homes. Even if this doesn’t affect your home now, fight with us.
See attachment for what could be built on a regular single family lot.
If any of you want a diagram of the impact this bill will have on your community, just give us the boundaries of your community and whether you have streets that have bus routes that have some portion of the route dedicated to a bus lane. (dedicated anywhere on that route not necessarily in your community).
A note to all of you represented by Senator Smallwood-Cuevas. She does not receive emails through normal channels. Those of you that are represented by her must go to this link Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas | Proudly Representing California Senate District 28 and copy and paste your comments.
We are now in contact with San Francisco and a coalition of 60 of their neighborhood groups. And we are in contact with San Diego and Santa Monica. We are leading the way and we need to continue to build momentum.
We will be sending letters to Sacramento soon. Stay tuned.
Thank you all again. Onward,
Maria, Cindy, Jeff, Marc
