President’s Corner 2/18/2025

Greetings Neighbors:

As we prepare for the South Shores Annul Business Meeting (Tuesday, March 18 at the Elks Lodge) the county of Los Angeles is suffering through its single largest natural disasters of our lives.  Many families, friends and associates have lost their homes, property and a lifetime of memories.  There isn’t a superlative that can adequately define the heroism, selflessness and dedication of so many, be they police, fireman, national guard, first responders, from out of state, Canada, or Mexico.

“Thank You and God Bless One and All”

By now many of our members have renewed their 2025, membership utilizing the new “joinit” portal, or by mail.  Hopefully, the constant reminders will attract both past members and new to renew and join the 2025 SSCA.  As a side note, we once again request “lifetime” members to forgive our previous agreement and join as new members in 2025.

The 2025, Business Meeting is shaping up to be an informative and exciting event.  Representatives from State, County and District 1–5 Councilman’s office, Fire, Police, Clear Water project, SSCA Board and CyberWatch will be available to answer your questions.  So please, utilize the questionnaire; in advance, to facilitate the process and assure your question is answered.  (see button below).  Although the meeting is scheduled to begin, 6:00 pm, PLEASE be early, to sign in, join if necessary,  hand in your questionnaire if you have not already done so.

Councilman, Tim McOsker has committed to assisting with the South Shores Ocean View Plaza project at the foot of Paseo del Mar and Western Ave.  Further investigation into a License Plate Reader (LPR) program has once again proved to be too costly.  A five-year commitment of $75,000 would be required, again not now, but perhaps in the future.  Tree trimming on Western has been completed, as part of the Starbucks project as interior work continues.

Goals for your 2025 SSCA are not limited to the following, but require input and volunteers for implementation from our Member Community.

  • Member business’s will be permitted to advertise on the SSCA website
  • Expanding social interaction, educational service time, by sponsoring:
    • Tutoring                           Babysitting contact
    • Dog sitting or walking       House sitting
    • Walk & Chat groups          Needle Point
    • Gardening Club                 Book Reading Club
    • Business Advertising         Etc., etc.

Let your imagination, creativity, or interest spur you into volunteering to host, or begin one of the above ideas, or one not mentioned.  All these and many more programs are proposed as a means to increase membership; as well as, neighborhood safety & involvement.  A neighborhood that works and plays together is by far a safer and more protected neighborhood.

The SSCA website is an important source for information, news and activities.  We make every effort to keep the site regularly updated with local events, announcements and issues of concern and affect our neighborhood and community. I urge you to visit the SSCA website at www.southshoresca.org or www.southshoresca.org/membership/join.

If you have not already done so, please take the time to print the membership form, or questionnaire form, fill it out and mail it back to the SSCA before March 18th.  Be sure to include your current email address & phone number.  Email is the primary source of communication with our members.

Respectfully,

Richard F. Scandaliato
