President’s Corner 10.15.2024

Greetings Neighbors:

Hopefully, we all made it through the summer unscathed. Now if we can make it through the election season together as relatives, friends and neighbors; that will be a good thing. Remember, what happens in Washington i.e., name calling, lies, hyperbole, exaggerations, finger pointing, should not define us, but rather instill in us patriotism, bi-partisanship, acceptance of election results, understanding what this nation is, and was built on.

It is important to focus on local elections, voice to our Senators, Governors, Mayors, Assemblyman, Supervisors and Councilman what is needed, what is wanted by their constituents. and offer suggestions on how to get there.

It is hard to believe that we are on the brink of the Holiday Season. As a child, it was my feeling that Halloween was the informal “kick-off” to the Holidays. SSCA membership is just short of 500, hopefully we can pass that figure in 2025. Our website still requires some refreshment and ease of access to important events and news. Sociables continue to flourish, their next meeting scheduled for November 3rd.

Bob Genest prepared the 3rd. quarter CyberWatch report which now shows car thefts to be our number one concern. Planning is underway for Coco in the Cul de Sac events, Holiday Lights contest, and other sociable and fun activities.

We all know that communications are a large part of any organization’s ability to reach out to its members. However, the need to communicate to both members and non-members is equally important. Therefore, going forward those messages, alerts, notices, and deemed important, communications will be sent via email, mail- chimp and posted on our website, for all to read and be aware of.

Initial steps are being taken to revamp both the March Business Meeting, and the Annual Reception. The result being a clear demarcation from business and sociable gathering to meet and greet each of our neighbors, as opposed to a Q & A of our political leaders. The goal would be to cut down on repetitiveness and redundancies.

There is no news to report on the 25th and Western Starbucks project, nor is there any positive feedback on the irrigation/park project on Paseo del Mar and Western Ave., “complicators” hard at work.

Let us ALL remember November 11th, Veterans Day. It is a special time dedicated to those who sacrificed so much for the freedom we enjoy. This country is blessed to have patriots willing to protect our nation. Give those past and present the strength and courage to face adversity, aggression and far too often criticism.

The SSCA website is an important source for information, news and activities. We make every effort to keep the site regularly updated with local events, announcements and issues of concern and affect our neighborhood and community. I urge you to visit the SSCA website at www.southshoresca.org or www.southshoresca.org/membership/join.

The 2024 SSCA membership drive is now officially closed, all new members are required to pay $25.00 per year through 2025. Members are welcome to join or renew throughout the year, however, dues for 2025 are now $25.00. Those who join as a new member, or renewal from November 1st, through December 31st. will be grandfathered in for the balance of 2024 and all of 2025.

Please take the time to print this form, fill it out and mail it back to the SSCA. Be sure to include your current email address & phone number. Email is the primary source of communication with our members.

Respectfully,

Richard F. Scandaliato, President SSA
