President’s Corner 08.27.2024
The August SSCA Board meeting was postponed one week, due to the Harbor Area Planning Commission Appeal Hearing the previous Tuesday, August 20th. The commission denied the appeal by the Friends of South Shores, but ratified specific conditions that must be implemented; such as signage, upon egress and regress.
Personally, I thought the Friends of South Shores were respectful, precise, to the point and made some compelling points in their presentation. So much so, that I invited one of the members to think about joining the SSCA board. One thing is for sure, we; the SSCA need to do a better more comprehensive job in communication to South Shores at large, be they members, non-members, but to ALL residents. Please if there are any ideas out there, share them with us. I promise that any idea will be given proper consideration.
Once again, the National Night Out (NNO) was a success. There were more than 125 attendees, several LAPD officers, including our SLO Melody Shortle. Erin Sato hosted the event with lemon aid, cookies, coffee, donuts and all sorts of goodies. Much interest was shown for the “National Center for Missing and Exploited Children” (NCMEC) as presented by members of the Secret Service.
The Sidewalk Brigade focused a blighted area in Upper South Shores a larger than usual group helped clean up in a timely manner before the heat reached its peak.
The Sociables, continues to meet monthly, but is taking September off in lieu of the upcoming SSCA Members Only Annual Reception.
No update the proposed irrigation project at the junction of Western Ave., & Paseo del Mar.
Preparations are in full swing for this year’s Members Only Annual Reception scheduled for Sunday, September 15th at the Elks Lodge 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Please plan to attend and come early. The goal is to begin promptly at 2pm, so it will be important to have everyone signed in and seated be 2 pm. Once again Markus Carlton will be entertaining us throughout the afternoon.
