Below is a note from United
Some of you have asked for a more layperson’s explanation of this resolution we sent you earlier. We have enclosed comments for you on our draft ,see attachment.
The idea behind this is to offer everyone on this chain, that has neighborhood council contacts, or city council contacts, or contact to mayors or other public officials, the ability to discuss important provisions that must be present in any official City Ordinance. An SB 9 Ordinance can help temper the impacts of this bill because some issues are left to local control. But these issues must be in an Ordinance or memorandum and registered by the City to be effective.
Our goal is to empower each other with information, so our cities don’t ignore the opportunities given to them by the State to adjust the impact of SB 9.
Those of you in LA, we will send you further instructions on how to best approach your City Council Members, Neighborhood Councils. We are currently in talks with a few of them.
Regarding the Initiative. It looks like signature gathering will begin in November. There will be an organized county by county signature gathering campaign. I will update you next week on how we all get involved.
Thank you,
Maria
